Confirmation
The Sacrament of Confirmation is the third of the three Sacraments of Initiation. Confirmation completes the Sacrament of Baptism and provides us with the gifts of the Holy Spirit. They are Wisdom, Understanding, Counsel, Fortitude, Knowledge, Piety, and Fear of the Lord. Just like the apostles on the first Pentecost, the candidate for Confirmation receives the Holy Spirit, which gives the recipient the strength to follow Jesus and empowers the individual to become involved in the mission of the Church.
At Saint John Neumann Church, the Sacrament of Confirmation is offered to students in the eighth grade. Preparation for the Sacrament of Confirmation is done either through Saints Joseph and John School and Incarnate Word Academy or through the Edge weekly catechism program for those who attend public school. Edge meets on Monday evenings from September through May from 6:30 until 8:00 pm.
Our Confirmation program consists of the following expectations:
- Monthly Confirmation prep nights for parents and Confirmandi featuring a guest speaker
- A day-long retreat held on our parish grounds
- Service: Confirmandi should have four different service experiences, at least an hour in length
- Catholic Extracurriculars: two experiences that demonstrate the beauty of our Catholic faith (possibilities include praying the rosary, Eucharistic Adoration, Stations of the Cross, etcetera)
- Sponsor Interview: Confirmandi interview their sponsor to learn about their journey and their faith
Registration for the Confirmation preparation program begins in the spring. All students must be registered by August 15th. For additional information, please contact Ann Marie Ong at 440-238-1770.
Baptized Catholics who have not been confirmed and wish to receive the Sacrament may also contact the parish office for more information.
